An Austin-based company called Campus Guardian Angel is developing a drone system intended to respond to active shooter emergencies inside schools. During demonstrations, the drones flew indoors at speeds of up to 50 mph and were used to scout hallways, deliver medical supplies and interact with simulated suspects. The system can also deploy bright lights, loud sirens or powdered pellets designed to distract or incapacitate a potential attacker. The company says it has conducted about 25 demonstrations nationwide, including several at Texas schools, and some districts are considering pilot programs while evaluating funding options. The service is estimated to cost about $8 per student per month for installation and operations.
