Halo Summary:
The Cumberland Police Department is now the first in Indiana to use a new, autonomous vehicle-stopping device aimed at making high-speed chases safer. The system, created by Spike Stinger, uses compressed air to remotely deploy and retract spike strips—allowing officers to stay up to 100 yards away and behind cover. It replaces older, riskier methods where officers had to manually toss strips into traffic. Chief Suzanne Woodland calls it a “major step forward” in safety for officers, suspects, and bystanders.
