TechHalo Summary
Brookhaven Police are now using the ATF’s National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN), making them one of the few local agencies with direct access. Since launching in April, they’ve already developed dozens of leads, including connecting a Brookhaven homicide to a Norcross assault case. Unlike before, when evidence was sent to the backlogged GBI, officers can now get real-time results by test-firing recovered guns and matching the unique markings on shell casings across jurisdictions. This faster workflow is helping close cases that might’ve otherwise gone cold, and the ATF has already recognized Brookhaven’s early success.
